Located inthe Gondrans sector, the freeride area invites you to exploreungroomed areasspecially designed to enjoy the pleasures of off-piste skiing in complete safety. These spaces arecontrolled and secureby the resort's ski patrollers, in order to offer an authentic experience without the risks of wild off-piste.
Areas dedicated to powder snow
Depending on the snow conditions, theFreeride sectoris open to allow everyone to find their happiness:
- Of wide and gentle slopes, ideal for getting started with ungroomed snow
- Of more committed valleys, perfect for experienced riders
- Of passages between larcheswhere you enjoy the feeling of isolation, just a few meters from the marked ski area
Safety and respect for the mountains
Even if the space is secure, thevigilance remains required. It is advisable to equip yourself with aDVA, shovel and probe, and consult thesnow and avalanche informationbefore your exit.
The Montgenèvre teams do everything they can to guarantee a safe environment, while preserving the spirit of adventure that makes Freeride so charming.

Advice for off-piste skiers
Before venturing into the off-piste area
- Ask mountain professionals (trackers, ski instructors, guides, etc.)
- Read the newsletterWeather and avalanche risk
- Inform someone close to you of the location of your outing and the time of your return
- Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended
- Take with you:
- A DVA in working order
- A folding shovel
- A folding avalanche probe
- A cell phone
On the off-piste area
- Don't go alone
- Do not cross major slopes all together
- Don't leave at the end of the day
- Always stop in a place protected from the risk of avalanches
