Hiking – Mont Chaberton
Montgenèvre
No possible alternative to conquer the “Battleship of the Clouds” and its mountain: you will have to get there with the strength of your legs alone! But the game is worth it, at 3131 m altitude the view is breathtaking…
Remember to bring warm clothes, or even gloves, for your arrival at the summit. Even in the middle of summer at this altitude, it is rather cool. And if you have thought about the thermos, a good cup of tea will perfectly accompany this magical moment...

ITINERARY
1. From the Tourist Office, go to the right (facing the office) towards the Obelisk. Cross the road to reach the Saint Anne chapel. At the chapel, take the path which runs along the road leading to the Village club du Soleil (direction Le Chaberton). When the trail joins the road, continue on the road.
2. Leave the road to take the track going up on the left (direction Le Chaberton).
3. At the next intersection, leave the track to take the path on your left (ETM 6 markings). Follow the path which climbs until you overlook the Rio Secco. The path becomes a track, continue to follow it.
4. Cross the Rio Secco and follow the ETM 7 markings.
5. The path splits in two. Take the one on the right, more progressive.
6. Arriving at the Col du Chaberton, turn right towards Chaberton. You are embarking on the steepest part of the route.
7. Arriving at the summit, enjoy the 360° view, the numerous orientation tables and the fort. Little anecdote: to be able to build the fort, the engineers “shortened” the mountain by 7 m high. Take the same route for the return.
